Ami & Co
Questions, answered plainly
The things people ask before they book, before they send a product page, and before they trust a stranger on the internet with their skin.
About me
Are you a doctor or a dermatologist?
No. I am a cell biologist working in regenerative medicine in Osaka, with an MEng in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Tokyo and a BS in Investigative and Medical Sciences. I read studies, mechanisms and claims for a living. I do not diagnose, prescribe or treat, and I will tell you when something needs a doctor.
What does "regenerative beauty, by a scientist" actually mean?
That I look at what a product or a habit does to skin at the level of cells and evidence, and translate that into decisions you can act on. Not ten steps, not hype: mechanism first, then standards, then ritual.
Do brands pay you to talk about their products?
Never. No sponsorships, no affiliate links, no paid placements from beauty, skincare or supplement brands. Brands I discuss publicly are never clients, and clients are never discussed publicly. Equipment or software partnerships unrelated to beauty products are disclosed where they appear.
Do you work in Japanese?
Yes. Consultations and brand work are available in English and Japanese, and I can brief a Japanese R&D team and an English-speaking marketing team in the same week.
For you: consultations
What happens in a Clarity Audit?
You fill in a short intake about your skin, routine, products and what is bothering you. We meet online, I read your routine the way I would read a study (what is doing what, what is redundant, what is fighting), and you receive a written skin strategy afterwards: what to keep, what to drop, what to add, and in what order.
Can you recommend a prescription product, like tretinoin?
No. I can explain how retinoids work and what the evidence says, and I disclose what I use myself, but a prescription is a conversation with your doctor. I will say so every time it comes up.
Will you tell me which brands to buy?
I will tell you which ingredients, concentrations and formats make sense for you, and I will name products when it helps, without any commercial interest. The standards matter more than the brand.
What if I have a skin condition?
See a dermatologist first. Acne that needs treatment, rosacea, eczema, infections, changing moles: these are medical. A consultation can sit alongside medical care (what to use around a treatment, how to protect a barrier), never instead of it.
What time zone are you in, and how do we meet?
Japan Standard Time (UTC+9). Consultations are by video call; the booking page shows available times in your own time zone.
Can I reschedule or get a refund?
Reschedule free up to 24 hours before. Less than 24 hours' notice, or a no-show, is not refunded because the preparation is already done. If I cancel, you choose a full refund or a new time. Details are in the Terms of Service.
For brands: claims review
What is the first read?
You send one product page. Within a week you get a one-page read of the three claims I would change first, each with a rewrite that keeps the evidence and still sells. US$450, credited in full against a Claims Language Review if you continue. What I check when I read a claim shows the method on a real page.
What do you not do?
I do not give legal or regulatory sign-off, I do not prepare FDA, MoCRA, EU CPNP or any other filings, I do not run clinical tests and I do not formulate. I find the gap between what a study measured and what the sentence says, and I write the sentence that survives. Your counsel or a regulatory consultant approves it. If you need a regulatory firm, I will say so and point you to one.
Which claims are you most useful on?
Exosomes and extracellular vesicles, PDRN and polynucleotides, growth factors, stem-cell conditioned media, peptides, and any claim that rests on in vitro data, particle counts or a small uncontrolled study. That is where my day-to-day work in flow cytometry and cell analysis is directly relevant.
How do you handle confidentiality?
Unpublished data, study reports and internal documents are used only for your engagement, shared with no one, and returned or deleted when the work ends. I sign a reasonable NDA on request. Clients are never named publicly.
How do payment and timing work?
The first read is prepaid. Larger work is quoted in writing and invoiced, due within 14 days. Typical turnaround: first read within a week, a Claims Language Review in two to three weeks, an Evidence Audit scoped on a call.
We are a Japanese company selling abroad. Is that your case?
It is the case I built this for. Japanese test data is often stronger than the English copy that ends up representing it. I read the data in Japanese and write the English that passes review in the US, UK and EU. There is a Japanese page at 日本語.
The site
How is my information handled?
Plainly, and only for the work. The Privacy Policy lists what is collected, why, and how to have it deleted.
Can I quote or share your articles?
Yes, with attribution and a link. Please do not republish whole pieces or use them commercially without asking.
